TELEPHONE JACK AND TELEPHONE PLUG MATING CHART
The following chart provides direct cross-reference information on part numbers for Switchcraft phone plugs and phone jacks, including:
* Extension Jacks and Adapters
* Military and Standard Telephone - Type Plugs and Jacks
* Miniature Tini-Telephone Jacks and Plugs
Properly mated jacks and plugs provide maximum electrical and mechanical life and reliability.
The electronics industry considers the 1/4" diameter finger plug size as standard for commercial, as well as military and telephone audio interconnecting applications. The .206 inch diameter finger plugs, along with other special features, are referenced in specifying notes.
Tini-Telephone plugs have .173 inch diameter fingers and are designed primarily for miniaturized telephone patching systems. However, premium quality Tini-Telephone Patching System components are widely specified for high reliability audio interconnecting in diverse audio applications, such as EDP, medical instrumentation, and telecommunication systems.
SPECIFYING NOTES
Certain jacks have one or more part number prefix letters which identify jack series and/or variation of features, as follows:
Prefix Letter(s) SERIES/VARIATION
C MT-Jax® : Indicates alternate frame
mounting style.
L 3/8" long threaded bushing.
M Hi-D Jax® : Indicates M series; mates with
MIL-type and telephone plugs.
MT MT-Jax and Twin-Jax® : Series designator.
N Thermoplastic-threaded bushing.
PC Printed circuit terminals.
R Right-Angle.
S Bushing inside diameter is .210 inches.
TT TT-Jax® : Series designator.
W Wire-wrapping terminals.
UJ Unijax® : Series designator.
X Offset ground lug (away from frame).
Y Offset ground lug (toward frame).
Jacks having the same last numeral and suffix letter in the part numbers have identical electrical circuitry.
Solid dots in cross-reference boxes indicate recommended mating plug and jack. Footnotes, indicated by a number, are keyed to specific part numbers listed in the column headings.
1. .206 inch diameter fingers of 2- or 3-conductor plugs
mate with .210 inch inside diameter bushings of 2- or 3- conductor jacks. "S" prefix on jack must have "S" prefix
on plug.
2. MT388 Twin-Jax mate with Twin-Plug® Part Numbers
411, 412, 413 or Military-Type Littel-Plug® Part Numbers
420 and 425, used separately.
3. Military-Type Littel-Plug Part Number 430 mates with
Military Type Extension-Jax® Part Number 820.
4. .206 inch diameter finger of 3-conductor MIL-Type
Littel-Plugs 480 and 484, mate with jacks with
.210 inch inside diameter bushings: MT-Jax, MT342B
and MT344B; and Series M Hi-D Jax, MS112B
and MS114B.
5. Twin-Plugs having 2- or 3-conductor, 1/4 inch diameter
fingers mate with 2- or 3-conductor Twin-Jax and also
with separate 2- or 3-conductor MT Series jacks mounted
separately on 5/8 inch centers.
6. Twin-Plug Part Number 415 has two 3-conductor fingers,
one .250 inch diameter and the other .206 inch diamter.
The .250 inch diameter finger mates with any MT-Jax,
except MT342B and MT344B, which mate with the .206
inch diameter finger. Jacks must be mounted on 5/8 inch
centers.
7. Lock plugs 282 and 298 require that a mating jack have
a threaded bushing projection of 9/64 inches minimum.
8. As an industry standard, 480 MIL plugs mate with Littel-
Jax C12B, S12B, S13B and S830, S1230 extension
jacks.
9. C11 and C12A MIL-type Littel-Jax mate with 440.
10. Series 491 has .206" diameter finger and mates with
.210 inch inside diameter bushing jacks only.
11. Twin-Plug mates properly when two 2-conductor Series
M Hi-D Jax are mounted on 5/8 inch centers.
12. 414 mates with two M112B, MN112B, M114B, and/or
MN114B mounted on 5/8 inch centers. 415 requires
Series M Hi-D Jax on 5/8 inch centers, and one jack of
the pair must be either MS112B or MS114B to
accommodate the smaller diameter of one plug finger.
