Installation and Cutover are made easy using DSX by providing temporary patched connections during installation of new equipment. Upon completion of the installation, the circuits can be tested prior to cutover via the monitor jacks. The cutover is completed by removing the cross-connections from the old equipment and then pulling the patch cords.
Maintenance and periodic testing of facilities assure the quality of your network. Terminating all digital facilities on a DSX bay allows testing from a central point in the office.
Reconfiguration may become necessary due to equipment problems, cable cuts or a temporary change in your network requirements. With DSX, you have the ability to make these changes at one point in your office on a temporary or permanent basis. Restoration of your office to its original configuration is simply a matter of removing the patch cords.
In conclusion, DSX products are the insurance you need in your network to assure ease of installation of new equipment. Simple cutover procedures, reconfiguration and maintenance tasks are made easily and quickly. The presence of DSX gives the transmission and maintenance staff the flexibility they need in the ever evolving network of the future.
Each network element has an incoming and an outgoing signal point. The DSX jack is connected to a network element by wiring the "OUT" pins on the equipment termination portion of the DSX to the signal exiting the equipment (toward the DSX) and the "IN" pins on the equipment termination portion of the DSX to the signal entering the equipment (going away from the DSX). To continue the process, the second network element must be wired to the DSX in the same manner. To complete the cross-connect, simply wire the "IN" pins of each network element to the "OUT" pins of the other on the cross-connect portion of the DSX. The two network elements are now hardwired together.
If the need for reconfiguration or temporary patching occurs, plug in a patch cord from the "OUT" jack of one piece of equipment to the "IN" jack of the new or spare equipment. The "patch" is completed by plugging a patch cord from the "IN" jack of the piece of equipment to the "OUT" jack of the new or spare equipment. The cross-connects have now been by-passed. Work can now be done on the faulty circuit or rewiring to the new one without being out of service. When repairs or rewiring have been completed, simply pull the patch cords and the circuit returns to the wired cross-connect paths.
